Uses of Fresh Water

Imagen
The video shows the differences between a girl that lives in a water-poor country and a boy that lives in a water-rich country. My conclusion is that the boy, that can get fresh and healthy water without difficulties, travels to the place were the girl lives and helps her by giving her some potable water. I think that is very good that the boy did this, since we give potable water for granted. This is because we never suffered from the problem that the girl is suffering. So by watching this video we realize that is not like this for everyone, and that we should help this people that lives in water-poor countries, by our own way or by organizations.

DAMS

Imagen
1) a. Building Large Dams ADVANTAGES: - water supply - more cultivated areas - more farmland reclaimed from deserts - no flooding risk - provides electricity DISADVANTAGES: - people are forced to move - ecosystems and habitats are destroyed - low quality lands - more pollutants - less water life - more risk of earthquake 4) "El Chocon" dam in Argentina LOCATION: This dam is found in the Argentinian Patagonia, formed by the rivers of Neuquen and Rio Negro. REASONS FOR BUILDING IT: Both the rivers Limay and Neuquen's waters were increasing so this was a problem for the population of "Alto Valle" and "Valle Medio", since there was a big flooring in 1899 that destroyed Viedma and Carmen de Patagones. In 1950 the "Agua y Energia Electrica" company, started developing the project, but they couldnt achieve it since there were very high prices. In 1967 the "Hidronor" company was able to start constructing this dam. PROBLEMS a...

Tropical Cyclones Summary

Summary: Tropical Cyclones A Tropical Cyclone is a rapidly rotating storm system characterized by a low-pressure center, a  closed low-level atmospheric circulation, strong winds and a spiral arrangement of thunderstorms. Tropical Cyclones are named with people’s names. These names are alphabetically ordered, according to when they occur, its location and strength for example, here is the list of 2017´s Tropical Cyclones: Adrian, Beatriz, Calvin, Dora, Eugene, Fernanda, Greg, Hilary, Irwin, Jova, Kenneth, Lidia, Max, Norma, Otis, Pilar, Ramon, Selma, Todd, Veronica, Wiley, Xina, York and Zelda. Tropical Cyclones used warm air as fuel, this is why they only form in warm ocean waters near the equator. This warm air rises upward from near the surface, there is less air left near the surface. causing an area of lower air pressure. So, air from surrounding areas with higher air pressure pushes into the low pressure area, so the warm air continue rising and cool off, and the wate...

Videos we saw in class

We saw several videos in class, such as parts of movies, and videos that explain how earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanoes are produce. For example, when the water in the sea goes back, that means that a Tsunami will happen. We also saw the part of the movie “Here Before” when a Tsunami is produced. And also, another movie in which a volcano eruption is caused, and the same eruption destroyed the volcano and that cause an earthquake and a tsunami. Another thing we saw in the video is how the volcanoes are formed: When a lot of magma is formed, it rises through the denser rock layers towards Earth´s surface.
